Please join me in keeping the Charlottesville, Virginia community in your thoughts and prayers following a very violent and difficult weekend there. Our condolences go out to the families and loved ones of those killed: Heather Heyer and two Virginia State Patrol Troopers Lt. H. Jay Cullen and Trooper Berke M.M. Bates, along with the 19 people injured.
We join the many voices around our state and our nation in condemning the violence, hatred, bigotry and racism demonstrated by the white supremacists, neo-Nazis and KKK members. The words and actions shown by these groups strike at the very heart of our country and have no place in our society.
We extend our support and healing thoughts and prayers to Charlottesville residents, first responders and elected leaders for vision, strength, unity, comfort and peace. May that city and her citizens grow stronger together as they move forward.
Mayor Shannon Kohl
