Since the Water and Sewer Utility Department is a large part of the Water Department, several of our accomplishments compliment their overall work. Despite being understaffed (losing an employee last December, this May and this past August), Diane Selch, a new employee we hired this summer and I worked tirelessly to maintain daily functions, billing and payroll. I am pleased to share we met all monthly goals in 2017. Listed below are our additional accomplishments this year.
Utilities Office Manager Tracy Hastings
- Water Utility was above budget by $300,000 for the first six months of 2017 and we continue to remain there.
- We implemented electronic cash drawers which allow for daily automatic transfers from our office to the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office. By transferring funds daily into the appropriate accounts, we have removed a step at the end of each month while providing for more accurate daily balances in the Water, Wastewater and Stormwater bank accounts.
- Along with the Water Department, we replaced several manual-read meters with electronic radio-read meters throughout the City. Initially, the process takes longer to set up in our computer systems, but is very valuable in the field. These radio-read meters allow more accurate readings and less physical work for our technicians.
- Our office underwent a “facelift” with each room painted and all our computers updated.
