Martinsville – Mayor Kenny Costin has issued the following statement regarding the COVID-19 (coronavirus) and the City of Martinsville.
“In the past 24 hours, there have been numerous developments related to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) that is spreading across the United States. These new developments may, in some
ways affect all of us – universities suspending classes, conventions, sports, and other events being canceled/suspended.
As your Mayor, I want to assure you that we are continually monitoring the situation locally, listening to our state and county health officials as to the impact the virus may have on us here in Martinsville.
As of this writing, there are no known cases of the virus in Martinsville or Morgan County.
What we all can do to help keep the virus at bay is to follow the directions that our health officials have been telling us for several weeks – wash your hands with soap and hot water (for at least 20 seconds), cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze and if you feel even the slightest bit ill, stay home. If you are one of our senior citizens, try to avoid going to places where there may be a large number of people gathered together. Should you feel that you may have the symptoms of the virus, self – quarantine yourself at home and contact your doctor or local medical facility to be assessed. The important thing is to take the necessary precautions.
At this time, all city services are operating on normal schedules and will continue to do so until such time our health officials direct us to do otherwise.
This virus is a serious situation; however, the important thing is to remain calm, but alert to developing changes that may affect our community. Taking the simple precautions previously stated
will help fight the spread of the virus.
Should you need additional information, you should contact your medical professional or the Morgan County Board of Health.
If it becomes necessary for us to modify our city services, we will post those changes to the city’s web site and Facebook page.”
