Common Council Meeting Minutes – June 14, 2021

Mayor Costin called the Martinsville Common Council to order on Monday, June 14, 2021.  Ben Merida led the Prayer to those in attendance.   Mayor Costin then led the attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance.

A quorum was declared present.

MINUTES

Mayor Costin presented the Minutes of May 24, 2021 to the Council.    A motion to approve was made by Councilman Phil Deckard II.  Councilwoman Ann Miller seconded the motion.  The Motion was approved 7-0

MAYOR’S REPORT

Mayor Costin announced that there will be four budget workshops this year.  Two in July and two in August.  Mack Porter will be sending out dates to the council members to get the workshops scheduled.

COMMITTEE REPORT

Councilman Phil Deckard II updated the council on the gateway signage at Main Street and Morton Avenue.  The invoice for the sign had been received and had been submitted for payment.

STAFF REPORT

Deputy Clerk Ben Merida announced a party being held at the Clerk-Treasurer’s office in honor of Payroll Clerk Brenda Davis’ upcoming retirement.  The celebration will be held at the Clerk-Treasurer’s office on June 17th from 2:00 PM until 3:30 PM.  Brenda’s last day with the city will be June 30, 2021.

Police Chief Richards updated the council on last month’s incidents, warnings and citations issued.

Fire Chief Greene updated the council on the previous month’s activities and calls.

NEW BUSINESS

Consideration of Ordinance 2021-0008 – Attorney Dakota VanLeeuwen the ordinance requesting an amendment to zone map – 865 East Harrison Street.  A motion to approve the ordinance was made by Councilwoman Ann Miller.  Councilman Phil Deckard II seconded the motion.  The motion passed with a 6-1vote (Wisco).

Consideration of Resolution 2021-627 – This item will be heard at the next council meeting.

CLAIMS

Mayor Costin presented the Claims.  A motion to approve the claims was made by Councilman Phil Deckard II.  Councilman Phil Deckard Sr. seconded the motion.  The Motion was approved 7-0.

COUNCIL COMMENTS

Councilman Phil Deckard II asked if striping could be changed in front of the A-Z auction house.  Police Chief Richards offered to look into the matter and report back to the council.

PUBLIC COMMENTS

Resident Betty Chamberlin invited all to an invite at Beefcake Burgers hosted by the Martinsville Crime Watch group.  The event will be on June 24th from 3:30-6:30 PM.
