Planning Commission Meeting Minutes – June 28, 2022

Vice-Chairman Tom Williams called the meeting of the Martinsville Plan Commission to order at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 28 2022, in the Council Chambers of City Hall, Martinsville, IN.

ROLL CALL:    Those members present were:

  • Bob Strader, Building Inspector
  • Dale Coffey, Attorney

PRESENTATION OF MINUTES: 

MOTION:  A motion was made by Ann Miller to approve the minutes of the May 24, 2022, meeting.  Ben Rawlins seconded the motion which passed unanimously.

NEW BUSINESS:

1.Docket #PC22010: Request to vacate and replat two lots in the Robert
Martindale’s lst Subdivision:
2139 Burton Lane, Lot 1, Robert Martindale’s 1st
659 Virginia Street, Lot 53, Robert Martindale’s lst
Owner:  Martinsville Baptist Tabernacle, Inc; Rodric Bray, Attorney

Attorney Rodric Bray made the presentation to the Commission for the Martinsville Baptist Tabernacle, Inc.   He stated that the church wished to vacate and replat the two lots listed above.   The existing church and school located on the lots have been there approximately 60 years.   Mr. Bray stated that the lots are already zoned appropriately but they would like to bring them into the same plat that the Martinsville Baptist Tabernacle already owns. 

REMONSTRATORS:  None.

MOTION:   Rachel Tuttle made a motion to allow the Baptist Tabernacle Inc. to vacate and replate two lots in the Robert Martindale’s lst Subdivision.  These lots are #1 and #53.    The motion was seconded by Ann Miller and passed unanimously.

2. Discussion: Tentative Timetable for Terminating Municipal Buffer Zone Control.

Gary Oakes, Director of Planning and Engineering, informed the Commission of a tentative timeline concerning the possible transfer of all planning and zoning matters within the four municipal buffer zones to the Morgan County planning and zoning authorities.   Mr. Oakes will be meeting with the four municipalities during June and July to examine the transition plan and municipal buffer zone planning.   

NEXT MEETING:   The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Martinsville Plan Commission will be at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, July 26, 2022.

ADJOURNMENT:  There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned with a motion made by Ben Rawlins, seconded by Rick Heacock, and passed unanimously.
