I. CALL TO ORDER
Commissioner Tom Gray called to order the meeting of the Unsafe Building & Hearing Authority at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 in the Council Chambers of Martinsville City Hall.
II. ROLL CALL
Commissioner Gray conducted the roll call. The following were present: G. Thomas Gray, Board Commissioner; Mike Lanam, Board Commissioner; Dwayne Metcalf, Board Commissioner; Dale Coffey, Board Attorney; Bob Strader, Building Inspector; Phil Vaught, Code Enforcement Officer; and Mae Cooper, Administrative Assistant to the Building Inspector
III. CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES
A motion to approve the minutes from the March 15, 2023 meeting was made by Commissioner Metcalf and seconded by Commissioner Gray. Motion passed 3 – 0.
IV. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A) 1305 Ash Ct: The property is in the process of foreclosure. Tabled for 90 days.
B) 309 E. Morgan St: The owner has a potential buyer for the property that includes the two-story structure. Tabled until the June meeting.
C) 299 E. Ambrose St: Code Enforcement Officer Vaught will monitor. Off the list.
D) 65 W. Morgan St: Crews are continuing to clean out the building. Off the list.
E) 1410/1440 S. Catherine St: A letter will be sent to the owner to clean up the trash and debris.
F) 645 S. Ohio St: The repair work on the home has been completed. Off the list.
G) 484 N. Maple St: The garage has been secured. Off the List.
V. NEW BUSINESS
A) 640 W. Washington St: The apartment building on this property suffered significant damage from a recent fire. All the tenants are out of the building and the doors and windows have been boarded up.
B) Inspector Strader gave a report of several properties in the City that were damaged by a tornado and straight-line winds on March 31, 2023.
VI. ADJOURNMENT
With no further business to discuss, a motion to adjourn was made by Commissioner Lanam and seconded by Commissioner Metcalf. Motion passed 3 – 0.
