Common Council Meeting Minutes – August 14, 2023

Mayor Costin called the meeting Martinsville Common Council to order on Monday, August 14, 2023.  Executive Assistant to the Mayor Mack Porter led the prayer. Mayor Costin led the Pledge of Allegiance.

A quorum was present.
Councilman  Jim Wisco was  absent.

MINUTES

Mayor Costin presented the Minutes of Monday July 24, 2023.  A motion to accept and allow was made by Councilwoman Suzie Lipps.  Councilman Phil Deckard Sr. seconded the motion.  The motion passed 6-0.

MAYOR’S COMMENTS

Mayor Costin announced The Haven will have a lemonade stand at 127 S. Main Street. The event will take place  beginning at 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.  All proceeds will benefit The Haven.

NEW BUSINESS

Resolution 2023-0043 / Redemption of Certain Building Corporation Bonds: Deputy Clerk Ben Merida presented the resolution.  A motion to accept and allow was made by Councilwoman Ann Miller.  Councilwoman Suzie Lipps seconded the motion.  The motion passed 6-0
Surplussing Vehicles and Equipment – City Superintendent Mac Dunn presented a list of vehicles and equipment to considered (copy attached).  A motion to approve was made by Councilwoman Suzie Lipps.  Councilman Phil Deckard II seconded the motion. The motion passed 6-0.

CLAIMS

Mayor Costin presented the Claims. A motion to accept and allow was made by Councilman Phil Deckard II.  Councilwoman Suzie Lipps seconded the motion.  The motion passed 6-0.

COUNCIL COMMENTS

Councilman Phil Deckard questioned why there is a “yield” sign at Harman and Prather Drive and not a “stop: sign.  Councilwoman Suzie Lipps reported a safe start to the school year.  Councilman Phil Deckard Sr. reported a committee had met and it was decided the Council will make the following grants.  To Martinsville Senior  Citizens, $20,000.00 and to the Artesian Little League, $10,000.00
