Common Council Meeting Minutes – August 28, 2023

Mayor Costin called the meeting Martinsville Common Council to order on Monday, August 28, 2023. Deputy Clerk Ben Merida led the prayer. Mayor Costin led the Pledge of Allegiance.

A quorum was present.
Council persons Ann Miller, Ben Mahan and Jim Wisco were absent.
MINUTES
Mayor Costin presented the Minutes of Monday August 14, 2023.  A motion to accept and allow was made by Councilman Phil Deckard II.  Councilman Phil Deckard Sr. seconded the motion.  The motion passed 4-0.
STAFF REPORT
Eclipse 2024: Mack Porter Executive Assistant to Mayor Costin gave a report for the April 8, 2024 Eclipse.  Martinsville is just off the center line of the Eclipse.  The City and County are working together to plan for this event.  Thousands of visitors are expected.  Hotel rooms are sold out.  Area schools will have e-learning that day.  Ther will be no trash pick-up that day.  It is suggested those that can work remotely do so or alter your schedule that day.  It is expected traffic will be very heavy.
CLAIMS
Mayor Costin presented the Claims. A motion to accept and allow was made by Councilman Phil Deckard II.  Councilwoman Suzie Lipps seconded the motion.  The motion passed 4-0.
PUBLIC COMMENTS
Deputy Clerk Ben Merida announced the Sleep in Heavenly Peace build will be October 14, 2023.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Mayor Costin welcomed Stephen Crane, Editor, of the newly formed Morgan County Correspondent. The first edition is due later this week, then weekly thereafter.

There being no further business, Mayor Costin declared the meeting adjourned.
