Street Department

Welcome to the Street Department where we are responsible for about 20 different initiatives for the community and you!

Our team of hard working city employees handle a range of tasks from bulk trash and regular trash collection to replacing street signs, to tree and stump removal to pot hole patching to leaf collection to putting up barricades for parades, community walks and other various events and certainly, snow removal in the winter.

Check out all the work we do throughout the year.

Office Hours

Monday – Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

We also have an in-house garage where we perform maintenance work on all city vehicles and equipment and we operate the transfer station at 45 Rose Street where you can bring bulk items. We accept remodeling materials and trash/debris from yards, but not brush at the transfer station that is open Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM and on Saturdays from 8:00 AM – noon. Our dedicated team is happy to serve you and your neighbors. We appreciate the partnership we have with you as we work together to keep Martinsville clean, safe and appealing.

  • Trash should be set out curbside by 6:00 a.m. the day of pick up and no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the night before collection.
  • All trash put out for collection must be bagged including any loose trash items

  • Brush collected on residents’ regular trash collection day (except winter)
  • Bulk trash collected weekly on the residents’ regular trash collection days (furniture, box springs and mattresses can be placed curbside; no electronics, appliances or building material will be collected)
